Chinese imports of ferro-chrome and chrome ore continued to rise in January on strong demand from the stainless steel sector before the country's lunar New Year.
Inbound shipments of high-carbon ferro-chrome stood at 217,210 tonnes last month, up 24.8% from December 2012 and 53.4% higher year-on-year, according to Chinese customs figures released on Monday February 25. Imports of chrome ores and concentrates had also jumped in December to 969,522 tonnes, up 33.9% month-on-month and 35.8% higher year-on-year.
