Chinese alumina producer Luoyang Heungkong Wanji Aluminium Co Ltd said that it has cut output of alumina by 680,000 tonnes on an annual basis, a day after state-run Chalco announced its own alumina cuts citing low prices. Mr Wu Xingzhong, the Henan-based company's deputy general manager said, speaking to Reuters by telephone that "On the one hand, the (alumina) price is low," said. "On the other hand, it's because there is no ore," he said, referring to the bauxite rock used to produce alumina, which is then used to make aluminium. Chalco, officially known as Aluminum Corp of China said on 5 July it would cut alumina output on some of its production lines in the northern Chinese province of Shanxi because of high bauxite prices and low alumina prices.
