US steelmakers support maintaining Section 232 tariffs

Many US steel manufacturers, including Cleveland-Cliffs, Commercial Metals Company, North American Stainless, Nucor Corporation, and Steel Dynamics, urged President Trump to reject requests to exempt or remove the upcoming 25% Section 232 tariff.
US steelmakers have upgraded their scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) technology and have replaced old blast furnace equipment with new plants since 2018, increasing capacity by millions of tons from these new facilities.
On March 12, the US government will implement the latest Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs, canceling the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) and previously established non-tariff agreements.
