On February 25th, U.S. President Donald Trump escalated the tariff war by signing an executive order to launch a national security investigation into copper imports and evaluate the potential imposition of tariffs, which could reach up to 25%. Industry experts believe this move is likely aimed at China, the world's largest producer and consumer of copper.

On the same day, Peter Navarro, senior trade and manufacturing adviser at the White House, stated that the U.S. has not fully developed its copper resources. He expressed hopes of revitalizing the U.S. copper industry, increasing domestic production by 70% to reduce dependence on foreign sources.
