Turkey increases scrap imports in first 8 months of 2024

Statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) showed that Turkey imported a total of roughly 13.5 million tons of scrap in the first eight months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 4%. The import value also rose by 6% year on year, reaching US$5.7 billion.
Among them, the supply from the US was the most, totaling roughly 2.93 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 0.3%. The Netherlands and the UK ranked second and third, with roughly 1.81 million tons and 1.46 million tons, respectively.
In August alone, Turkey’s scrap imports amounted to nearly 2 million tons, up by 23% compared to the previous month and by 31% from the same month a year ago.
