According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, China's stainless steel scrap imports totaled around 7,100 tons in August, rising by 33% from the previous month but plummeting by 61% compared to the same month a year ago.
Among them, the supply from Japan remained the most, with a total volume of roughly 37,000 tons, a month-on-month rise of 50% and a year-on-year drop of 66%.
The month-on-month increase in stainless steel scrap imports reflected an increase in China's crude stainless steel production in August. China's stainless steel output from 43 domestic producers totaled around 3.4 million tons in the month, up by 1.5% month on month.
In the first eight months of this year, China imported approximately 67,300 tons of stainless steel scrap, a significant year-on-year decrease of 70%.
