According to Nagendra Nath Sinha, former steel secretary in India's Ministry of Steel, unfair imports and dumping have a negative impact on the country's steel industry. Moreover, continued low demand from China is also a factor that exacerbates this impact. Sinha indicated as well that imports are a major problem, especially with regard to flat steel products.

Participants at the conference also said that China's steel imports are likely to fall from September. This is due to the Indian government's decision not to renew the license of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which is crucial for verifying compliance with Indian safety and quality standards.
