EU steel imports increase in Jan-Apr y-o-y

According to the 2024-2025 Economic and Steel Market Outlook/Q3 2024 Report" released by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), from January to April 2024, the European Union (EU) increased steel imports from third countries, including rolled and semi-finished products, by 11% compared to the same period in 2023.
During this period, imports of rolled products saw a significant rise of 20% compared to January-April 2023. Specifically, flat product imports increased by 30% year-on-year, while long product imports rose by 9% year-on-year.
India, Turkey, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and China were the primary sources of finished steel imports into the EU in the first four months of this year, accounting for 56% of the total volume.
Notably, imports from China and South Korea declined by 38% and 11%, respectively. In contrast, imports from Taiwan, Japan, Turkey, India, and Vietnam experienced substantial increases of 17%, 10%, 85%, 62%, and 155%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
