CMOC Group plans to more than double copper output from its mines inthe Democratic Republic of Congo over the next four years, setting anew much higher target for the metal as future demand is seenstrengthening.The Chinese producer said it aims to raise output of the red metal tobetween 8oo, ooo tons to 1 million tons by 2028 as it expands production at its flagship Tenke.Fungurume and another mine Kisanfu or KFM in Congo, a spokesperson told.CMOC produced about 420,ooo tons of copper in 2023 and is forecast to raise output to about570, ooo tons this year.Copper and cobalt are among the metals that are expected to continue to register futureobust demand due to their use in green technologies, such as electric vehicles, that are keyto helping governments globally meet climate targets.
