Russian aluminum giant Rusal is negotiating with the Sierra Leone government for a bauxite mining concession. Rusal, the world's second-largest aluminum company, already operates in neighboring Guinea.
At previous international economic forums, Rusal had expressed a lot of interest in opening a bauxite mining concession in Sierra Leone. Rusal said it was for the resumption of cooperation to ensure the strengthening of the Russian-African partnership in the mining industry.
Sierra Leone has significant bauxite reserves, and Rusal is considering various opportunities to strengthen its raw material base and resource endowment to obtain mining privileges.
