Nickel 28 Capital Corp. (Nickel 28), a Canada-based nickel-cobalt producer holding an 8.56% joint-venture interest in the Ramu Nickel-Cobalt Operation located in Papua New Guinea, announced a capital upgrade plan worth US$33 million at Ramu for 2024.
The investment means that the operation of the project will be suspended for 30 days throughout September, and the output is likely to decrease this year, with an estimated output of nickel contained in mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) of around 30,000 tons and contained cobalt output of 2,700 tons.
In 2023, Ramu’s production of nickel contained in MHP was 33,604 tons and that of cobalt contained was 3,072 tons, surpassing Ramu's design capacity for the seventh consecutive year.
