Australian mining company Rio Tinto has announced plans to increase production capacity at its Gudai-Darri iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia to 50 million tons per year.
The capacity increase will be implemented through equipment upgrades at a cost of approximately US$70 million. The increase will be helped by updates, including chutes and conveyor belts, as well as using existing incremental crushing and screening facilities on-site.
The mine began production last year and reached its planned annual capacity of 43 million tons in less than 12 months.
