Glencore to cease mining operations at Mount Isa Mines by 2025

Multinational mining giant Glencore will close the mining operations at Mount Isa Mines in Queensland, Australia by the second half of 2025. The closure was said to affect 1,200 work positions. However, it’s too early to say the figure on potential redundancies, said the chief operating officer.
Although Glencore tried to extend the life of the underground copper mines with a series of studies and reviews, it was found these mines have reached the end of their natural life as copper ore grades have been significantly reduced and geological conditions are challenging.
