IMF calls for Indonesia’s reconsideration on mineral export ban

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recommended Indonesia re-evaluate its export ban on minerals. The IMF said that Indonesia’s restriction should be based on a comprehensive analysis of long-term costs and benefits with an aim to minimize cross-border spillovers.
Besides, the organization has asked Indonesia to reconsider phasing out export restrictions gradually and not to extend the restrictions to other commodities, emphasizing that using more and more trade measures and industrial policies will likely lead to instability in the multilateral trading system.
