Sidor to restart crude steel production in Venezuela

Venezuela’s long-idled Siderurgica del Orinoco (Sidor) is reportedly restarting is furnace #1, located at Ciudad Guayana, in the Venezuelan state of Bolivar.
The company announced in a statement that it has already executed tests with electrodes and with hydraulic and mechanic systems, in a preparation to produce crude steel, based on its own production of pellets.
Sidor has a nameplate production capacity of 4.6 million mt of crude steel per year. The mill was privatized in 1997 and renationalized in 2008, with its production declining from 4.6 million mt in 2006 until halting in 2016.
