The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan estimated that in the second quarter of this year, Japan's specialty steel output (including stainless steel) shall decrease by 6.1% and come to 3.92 million in total. That is to say, during the first two quarters of this year, Japan's quarterly output of specialty steel maintains at a level of less than 4 million tons.
Meanwhile, according to the second quarter production plan of main specialty steel manufacturers in Japan, the domestic demand is believed to go down by 0.6% year on year and there will be 18.5% fewer exports year on year.
Back in 2020, in the first two quarters, Japan only realized a specialty steel output of around 3 million tons due to the COVID-19 crisis.
