According to import trading statistics offered by Korea Iron and Steel Association (KOSA), from January to September this year, South Korea imported a total of 279,114 tons of Japanese rebars. Therefore, Japan has now become South Korea's largest rebar supplier instead of China, which occupied almost half of the whole rebar imports of South Korea in the same period of the previous year, yet only accounted for 33% this year.
The weakness of the Japanese yen was the main factor that begot such a result.
Meanwhile, in the first nine months, imported Japanese H-beams were calculated to be 150,302 tons, a year-on-year increase of 11%, accounting for 43% of the total import amount.
