South32, a mining and metals company headquartered in Australia, reported that its aluminum production was up by 13% year on year to 279,000 tons in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2023 that ended September 30. The increase was mainly due to the continued maximum capacity operated at Southern African smelters and the successfully restarted aluminum smelter in Brazil.
However, during the period, South32’s alumina production fell by 2% year on year to 1.26 million tons.
The company’s aluminum production was expected to increase to 1.19 million tons in 2022, and alumina production will increase to 4 million tons this year.
