EU sanctions against Russian semi-finished products

According to the report, the European Commission (EC) has strengthened European Union (EU) sanctions against Russian semi-finished products. However, there is a transition period for the import of semi-finished steel billets until October 1, 2024, with temporary exemptions, and small billets until April 20, 2024, while coal exports will be prohibited.

The EC have been given some temporary exemptions for certain grades of semi-finished products. Official notification of 3.748 million tons of quotas for flat steel billets (CN number 72071210) from October 2022 to September 2023 and October 2023 to September 2024.

The new sanction stipulates that steel goods manufactured in third countries utilizing Russian steel will not be accepted in Europe after September 30, 2023. The latest sanctions also include a blanket ban on Russian coking coal shipments into the EU. Finally, it states that the restriction will apply to material from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
