India plans to build 12 new steel plants with annual capacity of 60 million tons

Indian Steel and Mines minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik said on July 26 that Odisha will build at least 12 new steel plants with an annual capacity of 60 million tons.

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) planned to build a steel plant with a capacity of 24 million tons per year, while JSW Steel planned to build a steel plant with a capacity of 12 million tons per year.

There are currently 51 steel plants in Odisha with a total annual capacity of 33.12 million tons.

The project to build the new plant is not yet determined when it will start, but the minister said that three steel projects will be built in Sundargarh district, two in Jajpur and one each in Angul, Kendrapara, and Dhenkanal. The locations of the factories in Keonjhar and Jagatsinghpur areas have not yet been determined.
