UK adjusts safeguard measures on certain steel products

On July 1, 2022, the WTO Committee on Safeguards published the notification submitted by the UK delegation on June 23, 2022 regarding the safeguard measure on certain steel products. This measure will be adjusted in some aspects.
The measure on five product categories (6, 7, 12, 16, 17) was extended by two years until June 30, 2024, and ten product categories (1, 2, 4, 5, 13, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26) was extended to June 30, 2024. Tariff rate quotas for all 15 product categories were effective from July 1, 2022.
Quotas on product categories 4, 5, and 19 have been corrected based on HMRC trade data. Quotas on categories 1 and 13 previously allocated to Russia and Belarus were redistributed to all other countries based on 2021 import data.
The list of developing member country exemptions was updated based on import data from July to December 2021. Besides, the UK’s Secretary of State decided to suspend the safeguard measure on Ukraine for two years from July 1, 2022.
