HBIS Serbia to idle NO.1 blast furnace due to low steel demand

HBIS group’s steel mill in Smederevo of Serbia will suspend the NO. 1 blast furnace operation because the global demand for steel is low. If the market becomes optimistic again, it will consider restarting it.
There are two blast furnaces in Smederevo, and the annual capacity is 2.2 million tons.
Serbia’s crude steel output was around 769,000 tons from January to May, increasing by 10.5% year on year. In May, its crude steel production was 167,000 tons, increasing by 36% year on year.
