According to Wood Mackenzie (WoodMac), the global steel industry’s carbon dioxide emissions will drop by 30% by 2050 compared to last year because more and more steel mills turn to using electric arc furnaces (EAF) with less pollution.

By 2050, approximately 48% of global crude steel will be produced by EAF, up from 30% in 2021, almost similar to the proportion of traditional blast furnace steel production.

WoodMac’s report showed that the steel industry emitted more than 3.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases last year, of which more than 2 billion tons were from the world’s largest steel producer China, which was expected to cut its carbon emissions by 50% through decreasing steel production.
