Japan's scrap exports fall in 2021 y-o-y

According to statistics from Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan’s scrap exports amounted to approximately 6.86 million tons in 2021, falling by 22.3% compared to the previous year. The annual export volume in 2021 was the first time in three years to drop to a level lower than the previous year and was also the first time to fall below 7 million tons since 2011.

Among them, the top three export destinations were South Korea (roughly 3.32 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 21.1%), Vietnam (roughly 1.84 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 43.2%), and Taiwan (roughly 455,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 55.8%).
