Turkey’s scrap imports rise in Jan-Mar y-o-y

According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), Turkey imported around 6.5 million tons of scrap in the first three months of this year, rising by 3.2% compared to the same period a year ago. The import value during the period was approximately US$2.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.4%.
Among them, the top import sources were the EU (around 3.12 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 13.7%), the US (around 1.12 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 61.2%), and the CIS countries (around 641,000 tons, a year-on-year decline of 8%.
In March alone, Turkey’s scrap imports totaled roughly 2.7 million tons, rising by 46% compared to the previous month while sliding by 7.2% from the same month a year earlier.
