Hyundai Steel, a leading steel manufacturer in South Korea, reported that its crude steel production totaled around 4.7 million tons in the first quarter of this year, up by 1.2% compared to the previous month and also growing by 4.8% from the same period a year ago.
The hike in crude steel production was mainly driven by the increased sales, especially in sales of steel sheets for the automotive and shipbuilding industries.
The first-quarter steel sales reached 4.96 million tons, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 7.6% and a year-on-year growth of 0.7%.
As the control measures of the epidemic have been eased, the steel demand was stimulated by the recovering local economy, which also raised the sales value.
