BHP Group Limited said on Tuesday (March 29) that it planned to invest more than US$10 billion in Chile, which suppliers nearly a quarter of the world’s copper and is the largest copper producer in the world, in order to push the growth in this country over the next 50 years, under the appropriate situations.
Chile recently elected a new leftist government and is redrafting its constitution and considering raising its mining royalties to fund expanded social projects. During the political negotiations, several copper miners have suspended their investment in Chile.
