Vale to supply battery-used low-carbon nickel products to Northvolt

Vale Canada has signed a multi-year agreement with lithium-ion battery manufacturer Northvolt for Vale to supply Northvolt with low-carbon nickel products for batteries, which will strengthen the companies’ commitment to the sustainable development of electric vehicles supply chains and electrification for the mining industry.
Vale has promised to invest US$4 billion to US$6 billion to reduce absolute carbon emissions by 33% by 2030, thereby realizing net-zero emissions by 2050. Besides, Vale also targeted to cut carbon emissions from its value chain by 15% by 2035.
Committed to raising the bar for sustainability in the battery manufacturing industry, As for Northvolt, the company planned to reduce carbon emissions by 90% compared to the current benchmarks through using clean energy in production and recycling, aiming to raise the standard of sustainability for battery producers.
