Turkey’s HRC imports grow in 2021 y-o-y

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of around 4.9 million tons of hot-rolled coil (HRC) in 2021, rising by 39.7% compared to the previous year. The import value totaled around US$4 billion, a year-on-year surge of 154%.
Among them, the top three import sources included Russia (around 1.92 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 58.1%), Ukraine (around 1.06 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 66%), and India (around 614,700 tons).
In December 2021 alone, Turkey’s HRC imports amounted to approximately 339,600 tons, sliding by 19.5% month on month but going up by 29% year on year. The import value had a month-on-month decrease of 23.4% and a year-on-year increase of 101% to nearly US$300 million.
