Canadian integrated steelmaker Algoma Steel saw shipments dropping significantly in the final quarter of 2021, hampered by holiday shutdowns, supply constraints, and Covid-19-related issues.
In the fiscal third quarter ended December 31, the shipment totaled 550,000 short tons, 10% lower than the forecast of 590,000-610,000 short tons.
Algoma is the second Canadian steelmaker to announce a drop in shipments but did not disclose the amount of inventory. Chief Executive Officer Michael McQuade said those stocks would be shipped in the first six months of 2022.
