Major chromium producer Kazakhstan enters state of emergency

Kazakhstan, one of the major chromium and chromite supplier and exporter in the world, declared a state of emergency as large-scale illegal protests broke out in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Tuesday due to surging fuel prices after authorities lifted price caps on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Therefore, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency from January 5 to 19 to ensure public safety.
Kazakhstan’s production and sales of chromium ore and chromite ore remained stable in 2020. The output of chromium ore was 4.65 million tons and the export volume was 710,000 tons. The output of chromite ore was around 1.5 million tons and the export volume was 1.28 million tons.
