South Africa-based Highveld Robusteel is planning to restart the steel manufacturing assets in phases in December, which were announced to be acquired from Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium in early November.

Robusteel said that the assets are located in the Highveld Industrial Park, a major industrial center in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and will be restarted in three phases.

The first phase will involve the re-commissioning of two smelters, continuous casters, and plate rolling mill facilities. In the second phase, the goal is to achieve 50% production in the first year of operation and reach full capacity in the second year of operation. The third phase in the third year of operation will target the restart of the steel plant.

The company also stated that production will be supported by an ore off-take agreement with the Mapochs mine.
