It was reported that Japanese trade minister Koichi Hagiuda asked the US to remove extra tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Japan in an online meeting with US Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai.

Japan’s request came after the US and the EU reached an agreement to end their tariff dispute over steel and aluminum. Koichi Hagiuda said that Japan will work on a global arrangement to combat dirty production and overcapacity in the steel industry.
