A fire broke out at a nickel smelter in Indonesia’s PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), a spokesman for the industrial park said on Friday, adding there were no reports of casualties or any impact on production.
A video seen by Reuters showed a nickel smelter at IMIP being engulfed in flames.
“The fire lasted for half an hour and has since been put out,” IMIP spokesman Dedy Kurniawan said, adding “production was not impacted and there were no casualties.”
Kurniawan did not disclose the extent of the damage caused by the fire at IMIP, which is Indonesia’s nickel smelting hub on Sulawesi island and hosts Chinese company Tsingshan.
The IMIP compound has a capacity for at least 40 nickel processing lines.
