Japan’s scrap exports reduce in Jan-May y-o-y

According to statistics from Japan Customs, Japan’s scrap exports totaled around 3.5 million tons in the first five months of this year, reducing by 13.5% compared to the same period a year ago.

Among them, the exports to Vietnam accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 1.2 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2%; followed by South Korea’s 1.14 million tons and Taiwan’s 346,900 tons, a year-on-year drop of 16.3% and 36%, respectively. Bangladesh ranked fourth with roughly 275,100 tons, down by 22.3% year on year.

In May alone, Japan exported nearly 700,000 tons of scrap, hiking by 2.2% year on year.
